Not so long ago, Sune Eskelinen and this website designed and manufactured six baseplates/brackets for the Kodak Super 8 camera. You can read about the project here: https://www.testedsuper8cameras.com/base-for-new-super-8-kodak-camera

We have sold out and are now considering making an MKII version. The MKII will allow the original grip to be attached under the cage and enable you to start and stop the camera using the grip.

Like its predecessor, it supports 15 mm rods with the industry-standard 85 mm spacing between the rod center and the optical axis. The 15mm rods will now also be able to run all the way through the baseplate.

It also allows the filmmakers to mount accessories such as a monitor, wireless transmitters, or an audio recorder. An HDMI cable clamp can also be used to keep the cable securely in place when recording video to an external recorder.

The wooden grip (on right side), which includes an electric shutter release button, is attached via a quick-release system specifically designed for instant removal to open the camera door and change the film cartridge. Between the wooden grip and the quick-release mechanism is a double Arri rosette that allows the grip to be positioned as needed by the filmmaker. Also on left side there’s other 32 mm Arri rosette ready for any accessory with this kind of attachment. There are also two 1/4″ threads separated by 18 mm just below the lens, for attaching various types of accessories, such as a Ø19 rod bar bridge. The MKII will include a couple of shoes, as pictured in the image from the MKI version (last picture).

The pre-order price is €975 (worldwide shipping cost included by UPS). A deposit of €585 is required upfront, with the remaining €390 due when the unit ships. Orders can be placed until April 15th, 2026, via www.testedsuper8cameras.com (info@testedsuper8cameras.com) and we expect to have them ready in about three months since the pre-orders are closed.

The top cheeseplate will be an optional part, not included in the mentioned price (as soon as possible we will announce the price of this item, and it will be available only for pre-orders and customers of the MKI version due it’s compatible).

We are open to suggestions for design changes, so if you have any idea to contribute regarding the design of this new MKII cage, we would be happy to hear from you.
